Delete your account
You can close your Ekiro account and remove what it holds at any time, without asking us and without giving a reason. This page says how, what goes, what is kept and for how long - and what to do if you cannot get into the app to do it yourself.
Delete it yourself, in the app
In the Ekiro app for Android, or in the web app at Profile → Your data:
- Open Profile.
- Open Your data.
- Choose Delete my account and confirm.
The same screen also exports everything you have first, as a single archive, if you want to keep a copy. Nothing about the export is required before deleting - it is there because a copy is easier to take before the account is gone than after.
If you cannot sign in
Write to privacy@getekiro.com from the email address on the account, with the word delete and the handle you used, if you remember it. We answer within 30 days and usually much sooner.
We will ask you to confirm from that address, or another way of showing the account is yours, before anything is removed. That step is not paperwork: an account that anybody could delete by naming it is an account anybody can take from you.
If you signed in with Google or Facebook and no longer have that account either, say so in the message and we will work from whatever you can tell us.
What deletion actually does
The request starts a 30-day window. During it your account still works and carries a banner telling you the date. When it runs out, the following happens and cannot be undone:
- Your profile is irreversibly anonymised - name, handle, bio, date of birth, email address and city.
- Your avatar and the pictures you uploaded are deleted.
- Events you were hosting are cancelled, and the people who were coming are told.
- Your sign-in identities, sessions, devices and push registrations are deleted, so no notification can reach you afterwards.
- Your interests, friendships, join requests, invitations, blocks and notifications are deleted.
- The text of messages you sent is replaced with [deleted]. The conversation itself stays with the person you were talking to, who is a different person with their own copy - what we can remove is what you wrote in it.
What stays, and for how long
- Backups: a deletion reaches them on their rotation, at most 35 days.
- Logs that carry an IP address: 90 days, as for everyone.
- Records we are required to keep, such as a report somebody made about a safety incident, for as long as the law requires - separated from the profile that was anonymised.

Changing your mind
Until the 30 days are up, open the same Your data screen and cancel. Nothing has been removed yet and nothing is lost. After that date there is nothing left to restore - not because we refuse, but because the data is genuinely gone.
